Ahead of International Women's Day 2024, we were delighted to host a special live podcast recording of an interview between journalist Sarah Carey and Frances Fitzgerald MEP on her rapporteurship of the Directive on Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. The interview touched also on gender equality and on the challenges and opportunities facing women in politics.

The recording took place at The Podcast Studios in Dublin in front of a live audience, which included representatives from Women for Election, Women's Collective Ireland, Network Ireland, European Movement Ireland, the Central Bank, Dublin City Council and the youth branches of Irish political parties, as well as journalists and university and secondary school students. As well as the Directive, which is currently in its final stages of adoption by the European Parliament, topics discussed included MEP Fitzgerald's career in public life, her work as an MEP and in the area of gender equality, the upcoming European Elections as well as difficulties and opportunities facing women in the political sphere. The discussion was both enlightening and inspiring, especially to the younger women in the audience, and concluded with a Q&A session (not recorded).

You can listen to the podcast here and on all major podcast-streaming networks.
