“Use Your Vote” campaign launch in MNW constituency

Today the EPLO in Ireland has launched the “Use Your Vote” campaign for the Midlands-North-West constituency in Sligo

This morning our campaign activities began with an information stand in the heart of Sligo. From 1pm to 5pm, the public was invited to interact with the election stand representatives, where they could learn more about the upcoming elections and the importance of their vote.

In the evening, the ‘Illuminations’ open mic poetry event was held at The Model in County Sligo. This event was a collaborative effort with Poetry Ireland Éigse Éireann and the Yeats Society, where artists recited poems on the theme of democracy to an audience of up to 100 people.

Following the poetry event, the EPLO issued an open invitation to artists in Ireland to submit their artwork for display in the new Europe House this autumn. The exhibition, organized by the Hamilton Gallery Sligo, is designed to highlight the wide range of artistic talent in Ireland and commemorate the country’s involvement in the EU.

Announcing the launch of the “Use Your Vote” campaign, head of office (acting) of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland, Fionnuala Croker, said: Today we launched our ‘Use Your Vote’ campaign in Midlands-North-West to encourage people to vote on 7 June, and we are delighted with the turn-out and the enthusiasm shown by voters we had the pleasure of meeting. The Midlands-North-West constituency will gain one additional MEP in the upcoming elections, and also two new counties - Laois and Offaly. We are reminding everyone to check the register and if not on it to register before 20 May. The aim of our campaign is to ensure that people do not take their vote for granted, especially in turbulent times where democracy is increasingly under threat.”
