Cost of living and housing Ireland’s main concern at the start of the new legislature
The European Parliament released today the “EU Post-Electoral Survey 2024” looking at voting behaviour and the main priorities of EU citizens
A new Eurobarometer survey has revealed that 51% of the Irish electorate voted in June's European Parliament elections, matching the EU average. The main issues driving Irish voters were the cost of living (56%) and housing (44%), significantly higher than the EU averages of 42% and 10%, respectively. Migration was a reason for 39% of Irish voters, also above the EU average. Irish citizens are strong EU supporters, with 71% having a positive view of the EU, much higher than the 48% EU average. Additionally, 63% of Irish respondents held a favourable view of the European Parliament, compared to 42% across the EU.
